How Trade Holds Affect The CS2 You Deposit And Win

A lock on a skin can stop it from moving even after you have completed an upgrade. The question most guides leave unclear is which delay comes from Steam and which comes from the site, because a skin can face a Steam restriction and a platform’s own waiting rule at the same time. An upgrader cs2 has to follow Steam’s trading restrictions when a skin enters or leaves the platform, while Trade Protection can restrict what you do with a skin after you receive it.

What a Trade Hold Is

Steam uses several different waits, and only one of them is called a trade hold.

Why Steam Uses Holds

A trade hold keeps an accepted trade undelivered, which gives the owner time to spot an unauthorized transaction. Steam’s Trade Protected Items FAQ says CS2 items are not subject to trade holds or trade escrow. Some guides still list holds for CS2 trades, so read the delivery date Steam shows.

What Replaced the Hold

Valve added Trade Protection to CS2 in July 2025. Its FAQ says all CS2 items are Trade Protected for seven days after being received in a trade. The item can be used in game, but for seven days it cannot be consumed, modified or transferred. In that window the account owner can reverse all CS2 trades from the last seven days, and reversing locks the account out of trading and the Community Market for 30 days.

How the Countdown Changed in 2026

Reports from June 2026 indicate that Market purchases no longer unlock together at one daily time. Each item instead unlocks 168 hours after its own purchase. Reporting differs on whether the same timing applies to trades and whether unlock times round to the full hour. Treat the timestamp Steam shows on the item as the reliable answer.

How Holds Affect Your Upgrades

Steam restrictions can affect a deposit or limit what you can do with a skin after retrieval.

What Happens to a Skin You Win

GudDrop’s upgrade page says a win goes into your GudDrop inventory, not straight to Steam, and that RETRIEVE sends it across. Because an attempt uses items already in that inventory, Steam’s locks matter only when a skin enters or leaves it. If RETRIEVE sends the skin to you through a Steam trade, the protection above applies. The skin works in game at once, but it cannot be transferred, sold on the Market or re-traded until its unlock time.

What Blocks a Deposit

Different Steam restrictions can prevent a skin from being sent:

  • A skin bought on the Market or in the in-game store is restricted for seven days under Valve’s October 2, 2024 patch notes, which cover the store and the Community Market.
  • A CS2 skin received in a trade is Trade Protected, so it cannot be transferred again during the seven-day protection period.
  • A password reset restricts trading for five days, and removing a Mobile Authenticator restricts trading and the Community Market for 15 days.

Where the Site Decides

A site’s waiting rules are separate from Steam’s, and its description of its own workflow is not Valve’s documentation. CaseRush’s deposit help page says a CS2 deposit credits in full once Steam releases the items. Gameflip’s help center describes a seven-day hold on skins deposited to its bots, extended to 15 days when Steam Guard is disabled. CSGORoll does not credit a balance right away while a trade sits under protection. GudDrop’s upgrade page is silent on deposits and locked skins, so check its deposit rules before you plan a session.

Checking Your Skin Before You Start

A lock only delays what you can do with a skin. Before you deposit, open the item in your Steam inventory and read its exact unlock time. On an upgrader CS2, checking your skins beforehand can save you from starting a session with items you cannot deposit.
